PUBLICOLOR
ABOUT:
Engaging and educating students and transforming public school facilities creates new opportunities for a better local community and a long-term investment in the future of local New York City communities. Publicolor and StyleOwner believe in channeling a student’s interests, talents, and abilities towards educational success.
- 1,200 at-risk students are directly involved with Publicolor annually, on a path to realizing their potential. Last year not one Publicolor student dropped out.
- Last year, 86% of actively enrolled Publicolor students graduated from high schools on time—compared to 42% of their peers—and 100% of them went to college. Nationally, only 47% of students with backgrounds similar to Publicolor students go to college.
Publicolor initially involves high-risk students in painting all the public spaces of their prison-like schools, positively transforming the environment for teachers and students alike. Publicolor teaches students strong and transferrable work habits, in addition to the marketable skill of commercial painting. Both StyleOwner & Publicolor believe that harnessing at-risk students’ untapped potential has immeasurable impact on their lives and the community.
